Ok so now that I have lifetime and dvr cable I recorded the show Army Wives and watched it this morning. So for ms. mo...here's my take on the show.
Why is this show all about officer's wives? It doesn't surprise me any because they never have shows that have enlisted wives in them. The way the wives gossip is dead on.I have NEVER seen a humvee in a housing area. In fact I don't think that's allowed.Frank is a jerk. Unfortunately I know too many soldiers like him who expect their wives to be for show and be all about his career.Even though I'm an enlisted wife I know what a hail and farewell is. I've even been to them before. Granted it wasn't for the post commander or whoever, but enlisted wives are allowed to attend some of them.The redhead I don't remember her name. I know the feeling too well when you're husband is only home for a short time and you have to watch him walk out the door again. The look she had on her face when her husband walked out, I've been there too many times. What was her husband doing that he couldn't be home but was allowed to have a full beard?Does Joan's husband know that she's considering giving up her career for him? Did she cheat on him previously? I wish I could have seen the previous episodes so I know what is going on...

A Trip Down Memory Lane
So I have alot of trouble at night falling alseep and I often lay in bed and think about crazy things. Last night I was thinking about toys I played with when I was a kid... Sooo
I found all of these things on ebay.
This is one of the earliest toys I remember. The Mrs. Beasley Doll from the TV show Family Affair:
My dad used to take our giant tinker toys and make "tents" out of them for me and my brother. I couldn't find the actual toy. They are really hard to find but here's an ad for them:
My brother and I used to play with these when were probably 5 or 6. I barely could remember if they were really a thing or not LOL, but I went to the toys and hobby section of ebay and then to the pretend play category and just typed in safari and OMG there they were!!!! And for some reason the gorilla stands out in my mind like I was just playing with this toy yesterday so I know it's the right one.
So sometime in the 70s the Barbie makers came out with this new version of the Skipper doll. If you twisted her arm she grew boobs and if you turned it back the other way her boobs went a way. My brother broke it from twisting her arms so much.
When I was 7 or 8 this was probably one of my favorite toys. It was called the Kenner Tree House. I did the same thing to find it as I did the safari toys. I just type in tree. Amazing how easy it is to find things if you sort of know how to look for it.:

Our family had friday night game nights and this was one of the games we played alot.
My brother and I played Pay Day all the time. We would play it for hours sometimes.
This last game I thought was called Staying Alive and came out after the movie did. Maybe it was this one? All I remember is it had marbles and alot of holes in it. I don't remember playing it alot and I barely remember the game....

Big Red Truck
So I'm in the elevator the other day talking to a lady about having to wait for them. I'm going up to the 6th floor from the 2nd floor. She's only going up to the 4th floor. Anyway she made this comment to me that after her class (on the 4th floor now) she has to wait sometimes 15 minutes for an elevator to go back down to the 2nd floor.
Now I know I'm not always the sharpest crayon in the box but ummm doesn't it seem to make more sense to just take the stairs? I mean you're not exherting that much energy to walk down stairs and who wants to stand in front of an elelvator for 15 minutes waiting for it to open?

Gas Prices
You may or may not know but I live directly across from a gas station. This morning I opened my curtains and sat down on the couch my view out the window is the sign with the gas prices on it. I was in complete shock when I saw the price of gas this morning is only $1.99/gal. I haven't seen it that low in over a year I think. I know closer to the bigger cities it is probably 10 cents a gallon cheaper. I hope it stays and continues to go down.

Michigan's Uninsured Women and Healthcare

Cancer Screenings and Birth Control
One program designed to provide uninsured women breast and cervical cancer screenings is running out of funds in Michigan. This year the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program has served 25,000 women in Michigan and is expected to server fewer women next year reports, the Detroit Free Press.
Despite the funding cuts for the cancer screening programs the state has created a new plan to extend family planning services to 200,000 uninsured women ages 19-44. This new plan will use money taken from the Medicaid program and provide birth control, pre-natal, and post-natal counseling services.
Women and Heart Disease
Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women. “Cigarette smokers are two-to-three times more likely to die from coronary heart disease than nonsmokers.” according to the American Heart Association. The AHA also says, “Women who smoke have a higher risk of coronary heart disease compared to nonsmoking women.” The Connecticut Women’s Health Campaign reported that uninsured women are more likely to contract some form of heart disease than their counterparts.
WISEWOMAN is a program funded through the Center for Disease Control and works in conjunction with NBCCDEP. In the Upper Peninsula’s Delta and Menominee counties the average yearly income is $18,000 and 25% of the women smoke. WISEWOMAN is partnering with local Community Tobacco Reduction Coalition in these two counties to apply for funding through the March of Dimes in an effort to help these women quit smoking and reduce secondhand smoke. A successful program could lead to a reduction of heart disease among the women of these two counties.

The CDC recently published a report concerning women of all life stages and diabetes. They found that women with type 2 diabetes have fewer years of education, lower incomes, and are less likely than women without diabetes to be employed. This means that these women are less likely to have health insurance.
Without proper treatment diabetes can have serious consequences. The worst is heart disease. Diabetes is the leading cause of death among middle-aged women with coronary heart disease being an important cause of illness. Women aged 45-64 with diabetes are 3-7 times more likely to develop heart disease than women without diabetes, reports the CDC.
“People with pre-diabetes can prevent the development of type 2 diabetes by making changes in their diet and increasing their level of physical activity. They may even be able to return their blood glucose levels to the normal range”, says the American Diabetes Association.

Journalism Final Project
For my journalism class Intro to News Writing and Reporting we had a final project due today. We could choose to do blog research on blogs about journalism or we could do a story elements project with a partner. For the story elements project we were required to write a story, discuss the elements a good news story should contain, and create a real website or a storyboard for a website and show what an online news story might look like. I worked with Meghan Symons from my class and we did the story elements project. I will post the written story this evening since I do not have it saved on my laptop.
